There are a number of fans out there who have been patiently waiting for the King of the Ring tournament to return and originally it was supposed to happen next month. WWE previously announced plans to hold King and Queen of the Ring from Saudi Arabia in May, but recently it was announced that the event will now be called Night of Champions instead.

PWInsider reports that it was a creative choice to change the name. The idea is that it will allow WWE to revive Night of Champions for the first time in 8 years and bring the event to an international market.

There’s currently no word at this point in time if WWE still plans to hold a King and Queen of the Ring tournament at some point later this year. Typically the Night of Champions event focuses on title defenses, but it’s not clear how that could play out next month.

Currently Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens are the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions. However, Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens don’t normally travel to Saudi Arabia for premium live events, so it will be interesting to see how the situation is handled with the tag team division. It will also be interesting to see if Roman Reigns defends the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at the show as WWE will have to set up a challenger for him over the next few weeks if that’s the case. Stay tuned for updates.
