Last week over two dozen wrestlers were released from WWE, and there were some surprising names that got cut. Kairi Sane was one of the more shocking releases as Kairi had been a key figure in a long running storyline on Monday Night Raw involving Asuka and Iyo Sky.
Dave Meltzer recently shared an update on Kairi Sane’s status on Wrestling Observer Radio, and it was reported that the former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion was released because she indicated that she wanted to move back to Japan.
“The Kairi thing, the reason she was cut was I think she had kinda indicated that she wanted to move back (to Japan). The reality is, this is not a money issue. This company makes, whatever it is. The revenue between UFC and WWE and throwing everything in, the revenue is in the billions of dollars.”
PWInsider also recently reported that there’s no truth to rumors claiming Kairi Sane’s release had been rescinded, and it’s been confirmed that Sane has already returned to Japan.
As for the Asuka vs. Iyo Sky storyline, it was announced during this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw that the two former friends will be facing off in a singles match at the Backlash premium live event in Tampa next month.
