The road to WrestleMania 40 has been eventful to say the least. Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble back in January and many fans assumed he would be challenging Roman Reigns on the Grandest Stage of Them All once again. However, things got a lot more complicated when The Rock returned to SmackDown in February to seemingly set up a WrestleMania match with Roman Reigns.

Fans didn’t react well to the idea of The Rock pushing Cody aside and things have taken a drastic turn since then. The Rock has joined The Bloodline which inevitably turned him heel in the process. Rock & Roman will now go on to face Seth Rollins & Cody Rhodes in a tag team match during night one of WrestleMania 40 while Cody is set to challenge Roman for the title in the main event of night two.

WWE has had to make some changes on the road to WrestleMania this year, and Triple H explained to ESPN why he’s trying to do things differently now that he’s in charge.

“Now it’s a different time, and the way I do things is slightly different. My career, I learned from being here, but there were things along the way that I always thought I would do differently. In this time now, I get to make those calls and with a large team of people. Whether people will want to believe it or not, I think we were sort of looking at this as here’s where we’re going to go to get this started and it has the opportunity of going this way or that way.

“We always have to call audibles every single week. Everything you do is dependent on reactions. That’s what we do as an industry. … The beautiful thing with this group and with Cody and Roman and Rock especially, everybody’s got their ear to the ground. … And then we all just get together and figure the s— out.”
