broken matt hardy

It’s official, Broken Matt Hardy is leaving TNA. He’s been telling people for months that his current contract was set to expire in February and now it’s been revealed that he will not be signing a new deal.

Hardy reportedly wanted to stay with TNA and even verbally agreed to a new deal back in December, but the deal fell through when TNA failed to get the contract in Hardy’s hands in a timely fashion, and now they’re losing one of their top stars.

Broken Matt Hardy’s Broken Universe has been one of TNA’s biggest attractions since last summer and the gimmick has reinvigorated the career of Matt Hardy. People throughout the wrestling community have praised Hardy for his creativity and his commitment to the gimmick, but it looks like TNA might try to prevent him from using it after he parts ways with the company.

Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting that sources close to Matt Hardy claim his current deal allows him to maintain ownership over his names and characters, but it allows Impact Wrestling to profit off of anything he filmed while he was with the company.

Unfortunately sources close to Impact Wrestling are claiming that the current deal states the company owns all IP creations.

Broken Matt Hardy has truly created something special with his Broken Universe, and his fresh take on wrestling put Impact Wrestling back on the map in 2016. With two opposite sides claiming two very different things when it comes to who owns the character, it should be interesting to see where the situation goes from here.

It’s also being reported that The Hardys don’t have a non-compete clause, which means they could start wrestling for another promotion very soon.

There are way more questions than answers at this point because we don’t even know if Hardy will be allowed to take the Broken gimmick with him. […]

  2. […] So, with this new report it certainly looks like there is actual talk of coming back which might include payment negotiations, possible angles, and everything else that comes with a professional wrestling contract. The new report notes no new deal has been offered at this time, but right now it is looking as though Matt and Jeff Hardy will return home with or without the Broken Hardys gimmick. […]
