Ric Flair is considered by many to be one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, and he most definitely had a Hall of Fame worthy career.

Over the years The Nature Boy faced off against some of the biggest names in the business, and in 1988 Vince McMahon tried to get him to join WWE so he could book Ric Flair vs. Randy Savage.

During an appearance on the Wrestling Inc. Daily podcast Flair explained that he turned the match down because he was loyal to the NWA.

“I just talked to Vince [McMahon]. They wanted me to come and wrestle Randy Savage, but I was just too loyal to the NWA. When you’ve been the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, how do you just skip out? Everything is a work in pro wrestling except when you are the NWA Champion. And it should be that way for anybody.”

The two time WWE Hall of Famer also shot down rumors that he’s been attending WWE creative meetings.

“No. Absolutely not. I do like to offer suggestions, but I’ve learned through trial-and-error that I’m OK just agreeing to everything they’ve laid out. If it [any storyline] involves me intricately, I want to give input. But I am better off just listening. This business has changed a lot, you can’t make everyone happy. It’s a thankless job to be an agent.”

Ultimately Ric Flair made the jump to WWE in 1991, and he stayed with the company before leaving to join WCW in 1993. The Nature Boy later made his return to WWE in 2001.
