For weeks WWE had been hyping up the return of John Cena and on Monday he made his first appearance on Raw in quite some time. Cena interacted with a number of WWE stars backstage, one of which happened to be United States Champion Theory.
Leading up to the show there was a lot of speculation that WWE could be setting up a Cena vs. Theory match, and Theory pushed the idea of a rivalry between him and Cena when he got in Cena’s face and talked trash to the 16 time WWE World Champion.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that at one point the idea was for Cena to face Theory in a match which is why the tease was done. However, Cena is not currently being advertised for any upcoming WWE events, so it doesn’t look like it will be happening anytime soon.
It was noted that WWE wouldn’t do the match without pushing more of an angle. It’s being said that Cena vs. Theory is clearly a direction that WWE wants to go in, but the match may be delayed until WrestleMania. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
