Friday Night SmackDown was an eventful show last week as Santos Escobar turned on the LWO and attacked Rey Mysterio. The former United States Champion was written off TV and Mysterio revealed earlier this week that he underwent knee surgery.
PWInsider is reporting that Santos Escobar turning on Rey Mysterio was always in the plans and had Rey not gotten hurt the plan was to do Rey Mysterio vs. Santos Escobar at live events.
It’s also being reported that there are quite a few people who raved about Zelina Vega’s performance and emotional work during Santos Escobar’s heel turn on SmackDown. Zelina Vega had previously done some acting work prior to joining WWE.
Following his surgery it’s expected that Rey Mysterio will be out of action for six to eight weeks, so we’ll have to wait and see how WWE keeps the LWO storyline going with Rey on the sidelines. Stay tuned for updates.
