After Vince McMahon canceled John Cena vs. The Undertaker for WrestleMania 33, the next feud for Cena was rumored to be with Samoa Joe. However, WWE officials also canceled that feud and sent Joe to Raw instead of SmackDown for WrestleMania season this year.

Samoa Joe debuted on Raw a month ago. During his debut, he attacked Seth Rollins, injured him, and has quickly established himself as “The Destroyer.” His alignment with Triple H has been great for him, but his WrestleMania plans are still up in the air heading into Fastlane.

WWE officials thought that Samoa Joe would become a top heel in WWE during his feud with John Cena. Pro Wrestling Unlimited has reported that the original plan was for Joe to defeat and “destroy” John Cena as a way to write him off WWE television after WrestleMania 33.

Cena is expected to take a hiatus after WrestleMania, so WWE thought they would use the opportunity to build Samoa Joe as a monster heel. Although it doesn’t look like it will be happening anytime soon, Cena vs. Joe can still happen whenever Cena returns to WWE.
