In the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer discusses the rumor saying there are plans on bringing an NXT star up the main roster very soon. We previously pontificated about this fact in great detail and proposed a couple viable options and Meltzer confirms one of our suspicions was correct. Unfortunately it wasn’t one of our favorites.

It’s being reported that there are plans to call Elias Samson up the the main roster very soon. The Drifter recently lost a “Loser Leaves NXT” match in which Kassius Ohno destroyed his signature guitar. Samson was actually scheduled for a main roster debut months ago, but those plans were halted due to an ankle injury. The Drifter is all healed up and for now he is performing as “El Vagabundo” at NXT house shows to keep up appearances that he’s gone from WWE’s developmental brand, but he is due for a main roster jump soon.

We’re not disparaging Elias, by the way. Samson does deserve it because he’s worked very hard in NXT for the past three years and has indie experience under his belt in IWC as Logan Shulo (good name). It’s just that we are impatient and want to see Nakamura or Asuka make the jump.

There are a few problems already coming out of Orlando in regards to WrestleMania 33’s choice of Camping World Stadium as their venue. One of the main issues is the stadium doesn’t fit nearly as many people as previous Manias therefore ticket prices have been greatly inflated to compensate for the expected loss at the gate.

This year’s WrestleMania venue is only expected to fit a max of around 60,000 people. That is a lot of people, but compared to last year’s gate of 94,000 people, it is a huge difference. Therefore the cheapest tickets for the event are around $160 for nosebleed seats, and there are still some very good seats on floor level available for around $3,000 a piece.

The location is also an issue due to the fact that WWE has set up shop in Orlando. Therefore the local area is regularly exposed to professional wrestling action with NXT along with other promotions, much more so than in previous markets WrestleMania has chosen like Dallas, Santa Clara, or New Orleans.

Although the Takeover: Orlando event is sold out at the Amway Center, as are both Raw and Smackdown that week, they are still having some trouble selling every ticket for the show of shows.

  1. I saw this stiff when he was working IWC here in Pittsburgh. Of all the guys there he would’ve been one of the last I would’ve hired. Also, he doesn’t deserve it. He still struggles with the basics and you could tell by watching him. I’m not saying he’ll never be ready but compared to Nakamura or Chris Hero, there’s no way he deserves a call up.

    • i think wwe has hired 99% of the guys in nxt just to bury thema nd keep them from woring for the competition.the hatdys, angle, drew galloway and others will be making a big mistake if the sign with wwe

      • I couldn’t agree with you more. Yes it would be great to see the hardys comeback home in the WWE but if that happens are they going to be like the Dudleys bring the back have a nice push for a couple of months and then boom we don’t see them ,then they comeback once in awhile to be put over. Then comeback and retire. Bring Nakamura up instead of Samson.
