WWE has signed a number of wrestlers in 2022 and it doesn’t seem that the signing spree shows any signs of slowing down. Now ESPN is reporting that WWE has landed one of the top names in Mexican lucha libre as Dragon Lee reportedly signed a contract with the company earlier this month.

On Wednesday, Dragon Lee finished up with AAA when he teamed with Dralistico to face the team of FTR. The current plan is for Dragon Lee to join WWE in January and he will start with the NXT brand.

“Dragon Lee is a tremendous talent that will immediately add value to the NXT roster,” said James Kimball, WWE’s head of talent strategy and operations. “This signing is reflective of WWE’s renewed emphasis on globalizing our talent pipeline with Latin America positioned as a focal market.”

WWE looks to continue their global expansion and a source noted that Latin America is a top priority for the company. Dragon Lee has previously said that being part of WWE is his dream and that he thinks he could become a new Rey Mysterio given the opportunity.

Dragon Lee had spoken with Canyon Ceman in WWE talent relations in the past, but he indicated that business picked up a few months ago when he spoke to Finn Balor and added, “[Balor] told me, ‘Would you like to be in WWE?’ I said, ‘Yeah, sure. Why not?’ … It was something special for me.”

Dragon Lee also noted that he’s been working on his English as he sees it as a challenge to learn more about promos. Stay tuned for more updates on his signing as they become available.
