The annual AEW Revolution pay-per-view aired live on Sunday night and the show featured several big title matches. For months now Cope has been feuding with the Death Riders, and he finally got his chance to go one on one with Jon Moxley when he challenged Moxley for the AEW World Championship in the main event.
Over the last few weeks Adam Copeland managed to take out the Death Riders one by one, so Jon Moxley entered by himself as he walked through the crowd carrying his briefcase.
At one point Moxley was standing on the apron and Cope speared him through the ropes. They fell to the floor then Moxley whipped Cope into the steel ring steps. Moxley ripped the mats up at ringside and tried to piledrive Cope on the floor, but Cope reversed it into a back body drop. Cope charged at Moxley who countered with a kick followed by a stomp on the uncovered floor.
Later in the match Moxley brought a steel chair into the ring, but the ref grabbed it. As the ref was distracted Cope rolled Mox up. Moxley pushed Cope off of him and he bumped into the referee to knock him out of the ring.
With the ref knocked out, Moxley set Cope up for the conchairto, but Cope got out of it. Wheeler Yuta made his way out then got into the ring while Cope and Mox were both down. Yuta took Cope out with a knee to the face. Moxley told him to grab the briefcase and he brought it into the ring.
Jay White came out to make the save as he attacked Yuta and Mox. White ended up with the briefcase and he went to hit Moxley with it, but Moxley ducked at the last second, and Jay White took Cope out with the briefcase by accident. The referee finally got back in the ring and Moxley pinned Cope, but Cope kicked out at two.
As Jon Moxley was arguing with the referee Cope connected with a spear for a two count. Cope connected with a another spear then hit Moxley with a third spear. As the referee was counting the pin a hooded figure appeared and pulled the ref out of the ring.
It turned out to be Christian Cage. He hit Cope in the head with the contract then signed it and he officially entered the match. Christian Cage got in the ring, speared Cope and Cope kicked out at two. He picked him up and hit the Killswitch then went for the pin, but Moxley got in the ring and put Christian in a headlock.
Christian then passed out and Jon Moxley was named the winner. As Moxley was making his way to the back Prince Nana confronted him. Security got in between the two of them as Nana pointed up. Swerve Strickland then jumped on Moxley from the crowd and took him out with a Swerve Stomp.
Swerve celebrated while the crowd cheered as the show went off the air.
