During AEW Full Gear Zero Hour, MJF & Samoa Joe successfully defended the ROH Tag Team Championship against The Gunns. However, The Gunns attacked MJF after the match when they destroyed his knee with a chair.
MJF was then stretchered out of the arena and taken away in an ambulance. As MJF was being put into the ambulance he told Adam Cole not to let them take his AEW World Championship.
During AEW Full Gear, Tony Schiavone made his way out to the entrance area with a referee and announced that MJF will not be competing tonight because he’s injured. Jay White then came out with the Triple B belt, and Schiavone said that the AEW World Title match is canceled. He was about to say that by default Jay White is the new AEW World Champion, but Adam Cole interrupted him.
Adam Cole said that if MJF can’t defend the AEW World Championship then he’ll do it for him. Cole said he will defend the belt on one leg, and that he’s already talked to Tony Khan, so tonight it will be Adam Cole vs. Jay White for the belt.
