Earlier this year The New Day parted ways with WWE after they declined to sign restructured contracts. As soon as they parted ways with WWE fans immediately started talking about a potential WWE run for the former tag team champions.
After months of speculation The New Day finally arrived in AEW as The New Level when they debuted with the company during the All In pay-per-view at Wembley Stadium back in August. Kofi and Austin Creed immediately made an impact as they teamed up with Swerve Strickland to win the AEW World Trios Championship in the first match with the companu.
Fightful Select is reporting that Kofi and Austin Creed signed five year contracts with All Elite Wrestling. It’s also being reported that creative was pitched to Kofi and Creed well before a deal was nailed down. Forming a trio with Swerve Strickland was one of the opening ideas that was suggested to the former WWE stars.
Recently The New Level and Swerve Strickland dropped the AEW World Trios Championship to Adam Page & Brodido at the WrestleDream pay-per-view. According to the report their title reign was never meant to be a long-term run with the belts. The duo were pitched on the idea of coming into AEW to work with Swerve who was said to have had a big role when it comes to initially bridging the relationship between Kofi, Creed and All Elite Wrestling. It was also noted that Tony Khan did not speak with Kofi and Creed until they were completely free from a contractual standpoint.
