Kurt Angle has been retired for years, but during his run as an in-ring competitor he was considered by many to be one of the best to ever lace up a pair of boots. In 2006, Kurt Angle made the jump to Total Nonstop Action, and it’s no big secret that the Hall of Famer struggled with addiction during his tenure with the company. Due to his struggles fans on social media have sometimes referred to Kurt as “Perc Angle.”

Earlier this year Kurt Angle issued a statement addressing the nickname and openly stated that the name reminded him of a period in his life when he struggled with addiction and mental health issues. Luckily the statement got through to the fans as many people have taken it upon themselves to stop using the nickname altogether.

Recently Kurt Angle spoke to Bro Bible about the response to his statement, and he made it clear that he was pleasantly surprised and grateful that fans dropped the nickname.

“Thank you so much. I was really pleasantly surprised that they responded that way. It makes me know that I have true fans out there that really enjoyed my career and loved me for what I did. I’m just grateful that they’re going to drop the name Perc Angle. It reminds me of a dark time in my life, and it’s something that I don’t want to have to deal with it anymore. I dealt with it already, and it’s behind me. Hearing Perc Angle just makes me think I’m known for that. It was not cool. I’m just glad that they’re now using Peak Angle, instead I’m very grateful for that.”
