Kenny Omega is one of the most talked about wrestlers in the world right now, and a few months ago his match with Kazuchika Okada at NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 11 was a very hot topic. Omega failed to win the match, but the match itself did earn the distinction of being the first ever match to earn 6 stars from Dave Meltzer.
Omega will get his chance to defeat Okada when they face off once again at NJPW Dominion on June 11th at Osaka-jo Hall. However, their last match took place on January 4, 2017, and Kenny Omega recently told ESPN that he feels it’s too early to have a rematch.
“If I’m going to give you a personal opinion, I would say that, I personally think it’s too soon to revisit that match,” admitted Omega to ESPN.com. “I would have liked to just let that performance be, come back to it at a later date. But there comes a time in business when it’s just important to move numbers, put asses in seats, as the saying goes, and you have to come out guns blazing. I knew eventually there would be a second match, regardless of how good or bad it was,” Omega continued. “I think there’s going to be a third, [and] I still think there’s going to be an Omega-Okada four. [But] I’ve been called to duty sooner than I would have liked to have been, and I’m put into a situation where that match is still very fresh in everyone’s minds.”
Whether you agree with Kenny Omega or not about the rematch being too soon, it’s clear that both men will have to work extremely hard in order to top their match at Wrestle Kingdom 11.
