John Cena was lucky enough to have a long career inside the squared circle, but the 17 time champion decided to officially hang up his boots when his retirement tour concluded in December of last year.
Throughout his retirement tour John Cena faced a number of big names including Randy Orton, AJ Styles, CM Punk, Cody Rhodes and of course Brock Lesnar. Cena collided with Brock Lesnar at the WrestlePalooza premium live event, and the match was heavily criticized as Cena got destroyed by The Beast Incarnate.
While talking about the reaction to the match at Fanatics Fest, John Cena said that it was easily the toughest match of his career because the fans hated it.
“I’d always say my next match was going to be my toughest, but that’s not true now that I’m retired. The toughest one was from the retirement tour against Brock Lesnar. The reason I say that isn’t just because it was physically demanding, any match with Brock is physically demanding.
What was tough about that one is I’ve had my butt kicked by Brock Lesnar before, and you guys loved it. In Indianapolis, I got my butt kicked by Brock Lesnar and you hated it. So that made it physically and mentally tough. It was easily the toughest match of my career.”
While John Cena is currently retired from in-ring competition, Brock Lesnar is still active. Brock last stepped into the ring when he picked up a big win over Oba Femi at Clash in Italy, and it’s been confirmed that Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi will face off for a third time at SummerSlam next month.
