John Cena has been WWE’s top star for over a decade now, but the company and John Cena are both going through some changes. Cena has been taking time away from WWE to focus on his acting career, and WWE officials have been pushing Roman Reigns as the next big thing.
Roman has been on the receiving end of a monster push which has seen him win the WWE Championship three times, and become only the second man in history to defeat The Undertaker at WrestleMania.
Although WWE officials have been pushing Roman hard, the former WWE Champion has divided the fanbase. Some of the fans love him, and some of the fans hate him, and that’s a reaction John Cena can certainly relate to.
Cena recently spoke to SI.com to promote his new movie “The Wall” and he had a lot of praise for Roman Reigns, but he also noted that he’s looking forward to facing off against him in the squared circle someday.
“Roman is in the trenches every night and he’s performing at an elite level with a champion caliber attitude,” said Cena. “His performance and the response that he gets from certain audiences is indicative of an elite-level performer. He’s doing what I did in 2006, 2007, and 2008. He has all the justification in the world in saying it’s his yard. I’ve made a career of shutting the mouths of people who’ve made that claim that WWE was their yard. I very, very much look forward to the day we put that to the test.”
Although Roman Reigns and John Cena have walked similar paths in their career, Cena also noted that Roman is doing things his way instead of turning to Cena for advice.
“I’m not going to take anything away from Roman,” said Cena. “He handles his business with the utmost professionalism. He’s doing it on his own watch. He’s not one of the those guys that comes over to me and asks me, ‘What happens next?’ He’s doing it his way, and I think that’s the best way to do it. He’s not trying to be the next John Cena, but he is being the only Roman Reigns-and that’s why it’s met with so much adversity.”

Booing them? I’d be cheering for Roman. As I always do. I despise Roman haters. They don’t even know why they’re booing him. They’re just doing it because the idiot next to them is. God I fucking hate the IWC sometimes.
Why would you imagine that? The fans aren’t the show, much as they’d like to be.
This will be THE big rivalry for this generation. I hope they keep throwing shots at each other and are kept apart for another year or so. Definitely a match worth saving for WrestleMania, they shouldn’t have a singles match before they get on the biggest stage possible together. It will be very exciting to see.
