Joe Hendry Reveals What John Cena Told Him About A Potential Match

The Royal Rumble aired live from Lucas Oil Stadium over the weekend, and Joe Hendry made a surprise appearance in the men’s Royal Rumble match. Hendry has been pretty open about the fact that he wants to step into the ring with John Cena at some point, and it sounds like it’s something that he directly mentioned to Cena himself.

Recently Joe Hendry talked about a possible match with John Cena on The Ariel Helwani Show and he stated that he believes it will happen this year. Hendry also praised Cena for taking the time to have a long conversation with him at the Royal Rumble.

“The same way that I believed that I would be in the Rumble, I hand on heart believe that I will wrestle John Cena this year. 100%. There’s not any doubt. I had the opportunity to tell John Cena that [backstage]. We had a long conversation. It was awesome. He’s the greatest. I’ll share of it, I won’t share it all, but basically, what he did say was that fortune favors the bold. What he made clear is that, if I want match to happen, it’s on my shoulders. I gotta make it happen. I gotta generate the interest to make it happen, and it was almost like a challenge.”

“Aside from that, he gave me some great advice. With all the chaos of the Rumble going on, John Cena sat down with me, and we had a long, meaningful conversation. He could have used that time to think about what he was doing. He instead invested the time to talk to me. So I think he sees something in me. But I have to prove myself. I have to put myself in a position where me versus John Cena is one of the most compelling matchups in professional wrestling. I feel like I can.”
