There’s no denying that the WWE tag team division has been in a bit of a rut for some time now. While new champions were recently crowned on Monday Night Raw when The Street Profits defeated The Vision to become the new World Tag Team Champions, Damian Priest and R-Truth have been holding the WWE Tag Team Titles since March with little to no options when it comes to potential challengers.
The WRKD Wrestling account is reporting that while current WWE Tag Team Champions, Damian Priest and R-Truth are said to be beloved backstage, there is growing frustration regarding the lack of variety and competitiveness in the tag title scene on SmackDown.
Earlier this year WWE released a number of tag teams who were active in the SmackDown tag team division such as Motor City Machine Guns and The Wyatt Sicks to name a few. JC Mateo and Tonga Loa of the MFTs were also let go.
Recently Damian Priest and R-Truth have been feuding with Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa of the MFTs, but Priest and Truth picked up a win over the MFTs when they defended the belts against the MFTs on SmackDown last week, so it seems that feud has hit a dead end.
It was rumored that WWE had interest in rebuilding the tag team division, but so far no moves have been made to do so on the Friday Night SmackDown brand.
Stay tuned for updates.
