Over the years fans have seen a number of wrestlers win the King of the Ring tournament, and some of the winners have gone on to make the win a part of their gimmick. Back in 2019, Baron Corbin won King of the Ring and proceeded to call himself King Corbin as he wore a crown and carried a scepter.

Corbin tried to push his new King Corbin character as a heel, but unfortunately the pandemic made it difficult for him to connect with the audience as he recently pointed out to Sports Illustrated.

“I think the pandemic killed the King because that was one of those things that needed to be in front of people. It was all about the presentation from being carried to the ring to the obnoxious giant 8,000 lbs. fur coat, and the crown, and all those things.

That’s something that needs to be presented to a live audience because it lives better that way, where it irritates people. When I’m looking down on them and waving at them from my giant throne that I’m being carried on, it just has more of an effect that way.”

A few weeks ago was reported that WWE decided not to renew Baron Corbin’s contract, so he is now done with the company. Corbin also recently commented on his WrestleMania 35 match with Kurt Angle, and you can get more on that here.
