WrestleMania is almost here and it’s safe to say that the show will feature some big moments. It hasn’t been officially announced just yet, but it’s expected that former WWE Champion Rey Mysterio will be facing off against his son Dominik on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
Ahead of WrestleMania it’s been announced that Rey Mysterio will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this year, and it sounds like Rey considered hanging up his boots for good. WrestleVotes recently spoke to GiveMeSport about Rey Mysterio’s WWE status while reporting that the idea of Rey retiring at WrestleMania was discussed.
“At one point, it was discussed that Rey Mysterio was going to retire at WrestleMania. But I don’t think next weekend is his last match, regardless of the Hall of Fame.”
So far a possible retirement for Rey Mysterio has not been mentioned as part of his storyline with Dominik. It’s being reported that the storyline reinvigorated Rey Mysterio a little bit which seemingly motivated him to push back his retirement. At this point in time it’s not known if Rey agreed to do another year, or if he could give more thought to his retirement once his storyline with Dominik is finished up.
Even though Rey vs. Dominik hasn’t been announced yet WWE is already discussing whether or not the match will take place during night 1 or night 2 of WrestleMania and you can get more on that here.
