Over the last few weeks a number of interesting names have been released from AEW such as Miro, Malakai Black and Ricky Starks. It had been reported that Rey Fenix was considered for a release as well, and now it seems that Fenix is done with All Elite Wrestling.
Rey Fenix was removed from the AEW roster on the company’s official website today, and PWInsider is now reporting that the former AEW International Champion is a free agent.
Last year it was expected that The Lucha Bros. would be heading to WWE once their deals with AEW expired. Penta has since signed with WWE, but Rey Fenix’s deal was extended due to the time he missed when he was injured. The belief is that it’s “all but certain” Rey Fenix is WWE bound.
Fightful Select is also reporting that Rey Fenix is done with AEW and eligible to sign anywhere. Fenix is expected to sign with WWE imminently, and Fanatics is already preparing merchandise for him.
Those in WWE who spoke on the situation expect him to end up with the company, and it’s said to be a foregone conclusion. The belief is that Rey Fenix will most likely join the main roster with his brother Penta.
Stay tuned for more updates on Rey Fenix’s status as they become available.
