King of the Ring used to be an annual event for WWE, but that’s simply not the case anymore which is why fans got excited when WWE announced that King & Queen of the Ring would be taking place from Saudi Arabia next month.

However, the company recently announced that the King & Queen of the Ring event will now be Night of Champions instead. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the name of the event was changed due to a booking decision.

It was noted that the reason for the change will become obvious after Backlash in Puerto Rico and in the build up for the Night of Champions event. Typically the Night of Champions premium live event puts the focus on champions defending their titles, but there’s currently no word on who could be putting gold on the line at the event.

Roman Reigns successfully defended his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 39 against Cody Rhodes and WWE has yet to set up his next title match. It will be interesting to see what WWE has in store for Roman Reigns at the show as he will pass 1,000 days as champion before Night of Champions airs live on May 27.
