The WWE Clash in Italy PLE aired live from Turin, Italy on Sunday and the show kicked off in a big way as Cody Rhodes defended the Undisputed WWE Championship against Gunther in the opening match.
Cody received a big ovation from the fans in Italy as loudly sang along to his theme song as he made his entrance. A few minutes after the bell rang Gunther got the upper hand and started to dominate The American Nightmare has target Cody’s midsection and left arm.
However, Cody made a comeback when he connected with the Pedigree, but Gunther kicked out at two. Gunther followed up with a dropkick followed by a powerbomb for a two count. Cody hit a Disaster Kick and the Cross Rhodes, but Gunther kicked out once again.
Rhodes went to the top rope for a Cody Cutter and Gunther caught him then applied the sleeper. Cody managed to get out of it, but Gunther immediately locked the sleeper in again. The American Nightmare managed to break the hold when he got his foot on the bottom rope.
Finally Cody connected with the Cody Cutter then another Cross Rhodes. As he pinned Gunther, The Ring General got his foot underneath the bottom rope, but the referee didn’t see it so he counted the pin, so Cody retained the title. After the match Gunther argued with the referee.
