Brock Lesnar and Bill Goldberg had been feuding for months, and they collided at WrestleMania 33 on April 2nd in Orlando, FL, at Camping World Stadium. Brock Lesnar was finally able to get a win over Bill Goldberg on that night, and he walked out with the Universal Championship. Brock appeared on Raw the next night along with Paul Heyman, but he hasn’t been seen on WWE programming since.
It was announced a few weeks ago that Brock Lesnar will be defending his WWE Universal Championship at Great Balls of Fire, and it was also revealed that his opponent would be determined at Extreme Rules.
Original plans called for Braun Strowman to face Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship at Great Balls of Fire, but after Strowman got injured, plans had to be changed. Raw General Manager Kurt Angle announced that Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Finn Balor and Samoa Joe would all face off in an Extreme Rules Fatal 5-Way match to determine the new number 1 contender, and on Sunday night Raw’s top stars went to war.
Prior to the match it was rumored that Samoa Joe could be walking out with the win, but betting odds shifted before the show to suggest that Seth Rollins may earn the right to face Brock Lesnar at WWE Great Balls of Fire.
As the first four men made their entrance they all arrived to a decent reaction from the crowd, but Roman Reigns arrived to massive heat from the fans in attendance at the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland.
Bray Wyatt and Samoa Joe dominated most of the match as they teamed up to attack the other competitors.
The end of the match came when Finn Balor hit the Coup De Grace on Roman Reigns, but as he was going for the pin, Samoa Joe grabbed him and put him in the Coquina Clutch.
Finn Balor then passed out and Samoa Joe won the matc.
