Trick Williams joined the WWE main roster earlier this year and he’s quickly become one of the most talked about wrestlers on the SmackDown brand. Williams defeated Sami Zayn to become the new United States Champion at WrestleMania 42, but his title reign recently came to an end when he was defeated by Baron Corbin at SummerSlam last weekend.
WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select reports that when WWE introduced a new custom United States Championship belt for Trick Williams in July, and in the weeks leading up to the introduction of the belt, there was no expectation that Trick would be dropping the belt three weeks later.
The report notes that WrestleVotes was told the decision to have Trick Williams drop the title to Baron Corbin only came together recently, and a number of people behind the scenes were surprised by the late change in plans.
Following his loss at SummerSlam, Trick Williams commented on what’s next for him when he said, “Look man, I’ve got some retribution to get. What does that look like? I’m not sure yet. Do I want the United States Championship? Maybe. Do I want something different? I had an encounter with CM Punk the night before. I’m not sure exactly what I’m going to set my attention to. I have a couple of days to think about it.”
