Last year Steve Austin returned to the ring at WrestleMania 38 when he defeated Kevin Owens on the Grandest Stage of Them All. It’s been rumored for some time now that WWE is hoping to book Austin for WrestleMania and Fightful recently reported that WWE offered The Texas Rattlesnake and enormous amount of money for a match with Roman Reigns.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the match was pitched to Steve Austin as recently as a few weeks ago. It’s being reported that the main idea for Austin was a match with Lesnar and the hope was that Steve Austin vs. Brock Lesnar and The Rock vs. Roman Reigns would be the two main events for WrestleMania. However, Austin vs. Lesnar and The Rock vs. Roman Reigns have both fallen through.

There was talk of WWE trying to get Steve Austin for SummerSlam last year and the attempt for WrestleMania this year was to set up a first time ever dream match between Brock Lesnar and Austin.

WrestleMania 39 will air live from SoFi Stadium on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2. Stay tuned for more updates on the WrestleMania 39 card as they become available.
