When Shinsuke Nakamura first joined NXT he quickly took the brand by storm as he managed to capture the NXT Championship twice. Nakamura was called up to the main roster in 2017, and although he has achieved success on the main roster his push has seemingly cooled off in recent years.

However, in recent months Shinsuke’s status has changed as he feuded with Seth Rollins over the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and he’s been getting a lot of TV time in recent months.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that one of the reasons why WWE is pushing Shinsuke Nakamura at the moment is because the company wants to sign Kazuchika Okada. The idea is to show Okada that the current regime isn’t going to treat Japanese wrestlers like the “stereotypical children-like role.”

There has reportedly been some talk of WWE’s interest in Okada recently. The pitch regarding a potential Okada run with WWE is that he’s 36 now, he’s close with Shinsuke Nakamura, and the WWE style is much easier on the body.

It’s not clear if anything will come of WWE’s interest in Okada, but there has reportedly been more talk as of late. Stay tuned for updates.
