Cody Rhodes defeated Roman Reigns to become the new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion at WrestleMania 40 and the next night he was confronted by The Rock on Raw. The Final Boss told Cody that his story with Roman Reigns is over, but his story with The Rock is just beginning, and he seemingly set up a match with Cody in the future.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that this is a long term thing. There’s currently no planned date for The Rock to return for the match, but it’s been talked about for WrestleMania 41.

Originally The Rock wanted to return to work with Roman Reigns, but right now a singles match with Cody Rhodes is the bigger match. As it stands right now The Rock may end up working a match later this year. However, that’s not a lock. It’s being said that The Rock would prefer to face Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania next year, and generally The Rock gets what he wants.

At this point it’s not a lock that Cody Rhodes will still be champion going into a potential match with The Rock, but The Rock would prefer it if he was. At the moment there are no firm plans for how long Cody’s title reign will last. There are also ideas being presented for The Rock to defend the People’s Championship if needed.
