The Royal Rumble is less than two weeks away and anticipation is at an all time high for the event. The Royal Rumble is known for its surprise entrants, and many people expected that Cody Rhodes would be making his surprise return at the show this year. However, Cody’s return was announced ahead of time as it was confirmed on Raw this week.
WrestleVotes is reporting that they recently inquired about Cody being announced ahead of time and they got an interesting response. According to the report Cody’s return was announced because everyone expected it, and because WWE is said to be more than pleased with the surprises that they have lined up.
Asked a source the reasoning behind Cody’s Rumble return being announced as opposed to a surprise…
Source said it’s twofold, one being that nearly everyone expected it to happen already & two, source states they are “more than pleased” w/ the other surprises that are lined up.

It’s not clear at this point in time who could be showing up at the Royal Rumble, but it’s been rumored that WWE is hoping to get John Cena and The Rock for WrestleMania season. It’s also worth noting that Brock Lesnar is being featured on the poster for the Royal Rumble, and Edge is expected to return at some point. One way or another it will be interesting to see what WWE has lined up for surprises.
The Royal Rumble will air live on Saturday, January 28 from the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
