It’s been a while since fans have seen John Cena step into the ring and wrestle a match, but it’s been confirmed that he’ll be lacing up his sneakers when he teams up with Kevin Owens to face Sami Zayn and Roman Reigns next week on SmackDown.

The final SmackDown of 2022 is set to take place from the Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL and Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE sold 4,000 tickets for the event after Cena was added to the show.

“We always say, and it’s true, ‘It’s the brand and not the guy’, but John Cena is the exception. They’ve sold 4,000 tickets in Tampa since he was announced on that show, which is amazing. So he is the exception to the rule. If you’re wondering, ‘Is anyone a draw?’ – well, he is.”

John Cena last wrestled a match on TV when he challenged Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam in 2021. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Cena as there’s no shortage of people who would like to face him at WrestleMania next year, but his status for the event seems to be uncertain and you can get more on that here.
