Roman Reigns has been champion for almost three years now and over the weekend he defended his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Jey Uso in the main event of SummerSlam. The Tribal Chief ended up retaining the title after Jimmy Uso interfered and turned on his brother Jey.
While talking about the SummerSlam main event during an appearance on McGuire on Wrestling, Dave Meltzer brought up the finish and noted that the idea of Jey Uso winning the match was never discussed.
“I never even heard anyone discuss that as a possibility. I mean, obviously, they’ve already got whatever it is. They’ve got plans going for Roman as champion for months down the line, so Jey wasn’t going to win.”
It was recently reported that WWE currently has no plans for Roman Reigns to drop the title, so it will be interesting to see where The Tribal Chief goes from here.
