Kevin Owens kicked off WWE SmackDown Live this week, and he bragged about his big US Title win at Battleground on Sunday. Many fans expected AJ Styles to retain, but it appears that WWE called an audible after the show started.

AJ Styles confronted Kevin Owens this week on SmackDown Live, and he told him that he wants a shot at the US Title. Unfortunately for AJ Styles, he was interrupted by Chris Jericho who made his return, and said that he’s next in line for the shot at the belt.

Shane McMahon then made his way out into the arena to address the situation, and he announced that Kevin Owens would defend his United States Championship against Chris Jericho and AJ Styles in a triple threat match in the main event of SmackDown Live.

Fans knew as soon as the match was announced that it would be an instant classic, and all three men delivered.

In the end it was AJ Styles who won the belt after Kevin Owens hit Chris Jericho with a splash from the top rope, and AJ then tossed Kevin out of the ring and pinned Jericho to win the belt.

After the match Kevin Owens announced that he will be invoking his rematch clause next week on SmackDown Live to end the show.
