AJ Styles Reveals T-Shirt Idea That Vince McMahon Turned Down

AJ Styles has been on the WWE roster since 2016 and his first year with the company was memorable to say the least. The Phenomenal One kicked off a feud with John Cena in 2016, and throughout the feud he repeatedly used the catchphrase, “beat up John Cena.”

The former WWE Champion recently explained during an appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet that he was hoping to put “beat up John Cena” on a t-shirt, but Vince McMahon refused.

“We tried to get a shirt made and Vince was like ‘Absolutely not.’ I was like ‘Why?’ But yeah we tried to get the shirt out there, he said absolutely not. I thought it was going to be good.”

Unfortunately for AJ Styles the t-shirt never got made, but The Phenomenal One did manage to pick up two victories over John Cena in 2016. Styles also commented on another potential match with John Cena and noted that he would love to face Cena again, but it’s not up to him.

“I don’t know. I don’t make those decisions. I would love to have it, for sure, it’d be fun. Honestly, I think that there’s something about, I can’t explain it, why him and I gel so well together. I don’t know what it is, because we’re definitely not the same in any kind of way. It just works. The first time I got in the ring with him it was like, Wow, dude, that was cool. So, yeah, I would love the opportunity to work with Cena again.”
