AJ Styles officially joined WWE when he debuted at the Royal Rumble back in 2016, and since then he’s gone on to become one of the top stars in the company.

The Phenomenal One has delivered some memorable performances in the ring over the last few years, and he’s also cut his fair share of promos on WWE programming.

There’s been a lot of talk about WWE Superstars cutting scripted promos and reciting them word for word, but during a recent interview with Wrestling Inc. AJ Styles explained how he makes promos his own.

“I take what’s given, and sure I’ll suggest things, but I take what’s given and make it my own. A lot of people say, ‘word for word,’ but that’s not me, because the writers are not from Gainesville, Georgia, so that’s not how AJ Styles will talk in a promo. I have to change it and make it my own. And truth is, it is a lot easier to remember if you do that. There’s a lot of things being said about that, and I’ll just make sure everybody knows the facts. I don’t say it word for word. I do not do it.”

It was recently confirmed that AJ Styles will challenge for the WWE Championship when he faces Bobby Lashley, Brock Lesnar, Riddle, Seth Rollins and Austin Theory at Elimination Chamber on February 19th. Stay tuned for updates.
