Friday night Alberto El Patron reportedly no showed the Impact Wrestling vs. Lucha Underground event, and he also missed a scheduled Impact Wrestling appearance at WrestleCon today. In the wake of Alberto’s two missed appearances, PWInsider is reporting that Alberto has been fired.
Alberto was originally scheduled to team with Penta 0M to take on Austin Aries and Rey Fenix on Friday night at the Impact Wrestling vs. Lucha Underground event, but the match was changed to a triple threat after he failed to appear.
One Impact source noted that Alberto claimed to be sick, but the word going around the locker room is that he had blown off the match.
Another story going around claims that Impact President Ed Nordholm was staying in the same hotel as Alberto, but after he was unable to check on him there was said to be concern for Alberto with talk of contacting the police to do a wellness check on the former World Champion.
El Patron was also set to challenge Austin Aries for the Impact Global Championship at the Redemption pay-per-view later this month, but if Alberto really has been fired and his issues with Impact don’t get worked out, then that match obviously won’t be happening.
Alberto’s contract with Impact was set to expire soon, and for what it’s worth, it was recently reported that Vince McMahon in interested in bringing him back to WWE.
Alberto made his debut for Impact in March of last year and he was immediately thrust into the main event scene.
2017 was a year full of controversy for the former WWE Superstar as he went on to unify the GFW Global Championship and Impact Wrestling Championship at Slammiversary on July 6, but he was later suspended and stripped of his title following an altercation with Paige who was his fiancé at the time.
He returned from his suspension at Bound For Glory in November of last year and has since been working as one of the promotion’s top stars, but it appears that he is now done with Impact.
UPDATE: Impact has confirmed that Alberto has indeed been fired.
IMPACT Wrestling announced today that it has terminated its agreement with Alberto El Patron, effective immediately.
