Sometimes in pro wrestling, you have to suspend belief. Who am I kidding, you need to do that all the time. When Kurt Angle revealed Jason Jordan was his long-lost son it really put the fans to the test. They would either accept this story or reject it but the reality is it was kind of a mixture of both.
While it resulted in a ton of hilarious memes the fact is the current pro wrestling fan base might of turned their nose up at Angle’s new angle. Jason Jordan and his daddy Kurt did the best they could to sell the emotional story in the segment on Raw and during their interview following the program, but did it take?
The latest issue of The Observer noted that although the ratings were up on Raw for the big reveal segment, it might not have been a good thing in the end. Fans might sour more on WWE as they could interpret this as them “crying wolf” if they saw the reveal as a poor payoff to a months-long mystery.
It is also noted Jason Jordan didn’t even know about the big reveal until last week and it went against previous indications people were receiving that American Alpha was going to be getting another push as a team. But in the end this Kurt Angle story line could explain why WWE hasn’t been doing anything with American Alpha for a while.
Another amusing tidbit about this story of Jordan being revealed as Kurt Angle’s son might be a backstage rib about Angle’s proclivity for dating African American women. Don’t forget WWE poked a little fun at this fact a decade ago when Kurt Angle tried to steal Queen Sharmell away from Booker T.
Only time will tell how well fans will accept this new development. It’s been rather amusing to us so far, so we’ll just have to sit back and see where this one goes.
