Monday night on Raw, WWE announced that a very important match would be taking place on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live. Last week AJ Styles became the number one contender for the WWE United States Championship, and this week the number one contender for the WWE Championship was decided on SmackDown Live.
Dolph Ziggler, Erick Rowan, Luke Harper, Sami Zayn, Jinder Mahal and Mojo Rawley all faced off in a six-pack challenge match to decide who will face the WWE Champion after Randy Orton defends his title against Bray Wyatt at Payback in a House of Horrors Match.
The six competitors wasted no time getting down to business, as all hell broke loose as soon as the bell rang. The fans seemed to be behind Sami Zayn as “let’s go Sami” chants filled the arena early on in the match.
There were many near falls throughout the match and it seemed like it was anyone’s game at most points. Each man scored quite a few close falls, and there were several false finishes.
The end of the match came when Sami Zayn met Jinder Mahal in the ring and then hit him with an exploder suplex. Sami Zayn went for the Helluva Kick, but The Bollywood Boyz then grabbed Sami’s legs to distract him, and Jinder capitalized to get the win.
Jinder Mahal was then announced as the #1 contender for the WWE Championship, and JBL said that he will get his shot at Backlash.
After the match Jinder cut a heel promo saying Americans don’t accept diversity, and he’s going to win the title. Then Randy Orton made his way down to the ring and cut a promo on Jinder, but Bray Wyatt appeared on the big screen and hyped up their upcoming House of Horrors match.
