Nowadays Triple H and Stephanie McMahon rule the WWE with an iron fist as The Authority. But they started their reign of terror together 16 years ago today. After it was revealed that Triple H had drugged Stephanie and forced her into a marriage, Vince McMahon was furious and sought revenge against Triple H. A match between Vince and Triple H was then setup for the Armageddon pay-per-view with the stipulation being that if Triple H won he would earn himself a shot at the WWE Championship and if Vince won Triple H’s marriage to Stephanie would be anulled.
At the end of the match Stephanie McMahon turned on her father and aligned herself with Triple H and later revealed that it was all a scheme to get revenge on Vince. Stephanie had been harboring resentment toward Vince due to the fact that he used her as a pawn during the Corporate Ministry storyline. It was a shocking moment and it was truly the moment that the Stephanie McMahon character was born. Stephanie and Triple H would go on to declare that we were now living in the McMahon-Helmsley era as they took control of the company.
Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are two of the most powerful and iconic performers in the wrestling business today. But December 12, 1999 is the day that their unstoppable union truly began.
