Randy Orton won the men’s Elimination Chamber months ago and he punched his ticket to the main event of WrestleMania 42. The Viper stepped up to challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship in a match that ultimately saw Cody retain. Following the match Orton disappeared from television and fans have been patiently waiting for his return.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that Kevin Owens and Randy Orton are both expected to be returning soon. It’s being said that Orton could potentially be back in the next week.
The report also notes that Randy Orton claimed he wasn’t injured, and was simply taking time off during the summer, but he was in fact injured. According to the report the original idea heading into WrestleMania 42 was Orton winning the Undisputed WWE Championship unless the company felt his back wasn’t going to allow it. When they realized that was the case all kinds of plans ended up changing.
With the door being left open with Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton at WrestleMania there’s speculation that Orton could return and either screw Cody or Punk out of the title picture. The belief is that there’s no reason for Orton to return unless it’s to work with CM Punk or Cody Rhodes, and Cody seems more likely at this point.
