Back in 2006, The Great Khali made his debut on WWE programming and he immediately established himself as a force to be reckoned with when he kicked off a heated rivalry with The Undertaker. Khali was booked as a monster for some time following his debut, but as the years went on he eventually took on more of a comedic role on WWE programming.
While talking about his WWE run on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, The Great Khali noted that Vince McMahon made him a comedy wrestler after he found out Khali wanted to leave the company.
“After WWE finds out Khali wants to leave, so then he made me a comedy wrestler, because he wants to kill my character. When I start wrestling in WWE, all of India watches wrestling. Everyone, kids, women, men, young and old. So he’s thinking he wants to leave, so he made me a comedy wrestler.”
When asked if he would have liked to continue being booked as a monster if he had his own way, Khali said, “I think so, I don’t know, maybe a couple more years.”
