WWE has been trying to create new stars and last year the company started pushing Maxxine Dupri as a serious competitor. Dupri was involved in a high profile feud with Becky Lynch that saw her defeat The Man to become the new Women’s Intercontinental Champion, but her reign only lasted a few weeks.

Maxxine Dupri then moved on to a heated feud with Nattie, which resulted in Nattie getting the upper hand. In recent months Dupri has not been pushed as heavily on WWE programming as she’s mostly been competing on Main Event.

During a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that WWE originally wanted to push Maxxine Dupri as a wrestler because of her looks, but the company stopped pushing her because the fans didn’t react to the former Women’s Intercontinental Champion.

“That’s why we haven’t seen Maxxine as a wrestler. They thought she was a big star because of her looks, and they were giving her the big push, but when she went out, the people didn’t react. At the end of the day, the people aren’t always the judge.”

Meltzer went on to say that if you’re in the middle of the card and lower, and the people don’t react to you, that’s going to be an issue. He also stated that the lack of reactions to her matches basically hurt her career.

While Maxxine hasn’t been pushed as hard as a wrestler she’s still being featured on WWE programming alongside Alpha Academy. Last week on Raw, Maxxine decided not to accept Chad Gable’s apology, but it seems that storyline is far from over.
