It’s certainly not uncommon for wrestlers to part ways with WWE, but some of them make various attempts to return to the company after their run is through. Marty Garner, also known as Cham Pain, made appearances on WWE programming from 1994 to 1998 and in the mid-2000s he launched a blog which gained 100,000 followers.
During an appearance on the Cheap Heat Productions Podcast, Marty Garner explained that his fans started a “Hire Cham-Pain” campaign which resulted in John Laurinaitis receiving 300 to 500 emails a day. Ultimately the emails did not lead to Marty getting re-hired as Laurinaitis threatened to have Garner arrested if he came to a WWE show.
“He [John Laurinaitis] said, ‘Well, I don’t wanna ever see you again. If you come to a show, I’ll have you arrested.’ I said, ‘Johnny, I’m just trying to get an F-ing job.’ That was back when I used to curse all the time – I don’t curse anymore. He goes, ‘Now you’re cursing at a senior official of WWE.’ I said, ‘Johnny, I’m not cursing at you. I’m cursing about the situation.'”
Unfortunately for Marty Garner he wasn’t re-hired, but WWE did bring him back for sporadic appearances between 2006 and 2008. His last appearance on WWE programming was in April of 2008 when he faced off against Vladimir Kozlov on SmackDown.
