Cody Rhodes has been on quite the journey over the last few years as he parted ways with WWE in 2016 and went on to wrestle for a number of companies before helping to launch All Elite Wrestling in 2019. The American Nightmare’s journey with AEW came to an end last year when he left the company to return to WWE at WrestleMania 38.
A year later Cody Rhodes found himself in the main event at WrestleMania 39 where he challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Rhodes had a lot of momentum heading into the show, but ultimately The Tribal Chief retained the belts, and the wrestling world has been talking about the finish ever since.
Matt Hardy recently discussed the match on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, and Hardy mentioned that it’s possible Cody’s involvement with AEW may have had something to do with the outcome.
“Cody, he ends up leaving, he goes out, he creates a company, he creates success. He gets himself over. He’s a big deal and [people are] all behind him. Vince comes in at the end of the day, like, ‘hold up, before you are going to run this ship, I’m going to show you. I’ll make you earn it.’ I mean, that’s a possibility. I don’t know if that is the actual factual, true deal [though].”
