Many of the wrestlers who were released from WWE over the last few years have made appearances on AEW programming, and some of them have also signed contracts with All Elite Wrestling.
Matt Cardona, formerly known as Zack Ryder, was released from WWE in April of 2020 and he went on to make his AEW debut a few months later in July of that same year. Cardona went on to wrestle a few matches for AEW but ultimately his run with the company didn’t go anywhere.
During a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Matt Cardona opened up about working with AEW and he noted that the company never offered him a deal.
“Well, I mean, the AEW thing, listen, it’s not like they offered me a deal and I turned it down. That’s not what happened. What happened? I don’t exactly know. I did a couple shows there. I thought I was gonna be offered something. I wasn’t. Okay, now I gotta move on, you know? I just don’t want to be tied down anywhere.”
Recently it’s been rumored that WWE is interested in bringing Matt Cardona back to the company, but only time will tell whether or not that happens.
