Over the last few years a number of former WWE stars have joined AEW and Saraya (formerly known as Paige in WWE) made her big debut with the company a few months ago at Grand Slam. Saraya is set to work with a mystery partner during the January 11 episode of Dynamite, and there seems to be a lot of speculation that Sasha Banks could be her partner.
It was recently reported that Banks, real name Mercedes Varnado, is not expected to return to WWE and she will be at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom on January 4th. Saraya addressed the possibility of teaming with Mercedes during an interview with Forbes and she made it clear that she’s on board with the idea.
“I feel like anytime there’s a mystery, everyone always goes straight for Mercedes (laughs). They’re like—straight away—it’s her! There’s plenty of women out there, I’m not going to say yes or no to anybody, but there’s a lot of exciting prospects for a potential tag partner.”
“I’ve always said that I would want to work with Sasha again in any capacity, because she’s a pro. In the wrestling side of things, she’s such a fantastic athlete, you can’t deny her talent. She’s fantastic.”
“People can be really tough on people, especially female athletes, which can be super frustrating. Especially female athletes who carry their weight. They can go toe-to-toe with most of the guys.”
