Sami Zayn won the Intercontinental Championship back at Elimination Chamber, and he successfully defended the belt against Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 36. But Zayn hasn’t wrestled since the show of shows and the status of the IC Title was addressed on WWE Backstage this week.
It was announced that Sami Zayn has been stripped of the WWE Intercontinental Championship, and a tournament will be held to crown a new champion. The tournament is set to kick off on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown.
Following the announcement Sami took to Twitter to declare that he is still the champion when he posted the following:

It’s been reported that Sami Zayn has not been attending WWE TV tapings due to health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic. At this point in time it’s not clear when he’ll be returning.
