The New Day kicked off Monday Night Raw this week as they hyped up the fact that they were set to break Demolition’s Tag Team Title record at midnight. They defended their Tag Team Titles against Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson and Cesaro and Sheamus in the opening match, and New Day retained after Kofi Kingston put Sheamus away with Trouble in Paradise.
After the match The New Day made their way backstage to celebrate, and everyone started popping champagne. The New Day accidentally covered Stephanie McMahon in champagne, and she stormed out of the room.
WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens later met up with Stephanie backstage and he told her that had an idea. Later in the show Kevin Owens was set to be a guest on Seth Rollins’ show, the Rollins Report, and he announced that Stephanie McMahon agreed to give him and Chris Jericho a title shot on Raw. Jericho came out and argued with Owens for a while, then they reunited and beat down Seth Rollins before they were chased away by Roman Reigns.
Backstage Mick Foley added Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins to the match to make it a triple threat.
The New Day defended their titles in the main event, and Big E wrestled his second match of the night while Xavier Woods stepped in for Kofi Kingston.
The end of the match came when Seth Rollins hit Chris Jericho with the Pedigree, then Big E pulled Rollins out of the ring while Xavier Woods covered Chris Jericho for the win.
During the match Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho hit a double team move on Xavier Woods, and it looked like they had it won, but Reigns pushed Owens on Jericho to break up the pin.
After the match they argued with each other, and Kevin Owens tried to tell Jericho that Reigns pushed him, but Jericho said their friendship is over and he left. Roman Reigns then speared Kevin Owens and held up the US and Universal Title belts to end the show.
