smackdown

Some wrestlers are good at playing a heel, while others are good at playing a face, and some are good at playing both. Now it looks like we could be seeing a heel turn from a major player on SmackDown Live in the weeks to come.

For the past few months Shane McMahon has been feuding with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, and the feud continues to heat up with each passing week.

Since the launch of SmackDown Live, Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan have mostly worked as a team but as of late there’s been tension between the SmackDown Commissioner and General Manager, as Shane has been making big decisions without consulting Bryan.

On this week’s episode, Shane McMahon booked Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn in a tag team match against Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura at Clash of Champions, and he added a huge stipulation to the match.

During a backstage conversation with Daniel Bryan, Shane said that he’s going to be the special guest referee for the match, and if Owens and Zayn lose, they will be fired. Bryan didn’t look too happy about Shane’s big announcement.

CageSideSeats notes that Shane’s current angle where he’s going overboard punishing Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn could be leading to a Shane McMahon heel turn.

It’s been a long time since Shane has played a heel on WWE programming, as he spent several years away from the company, and he’s been a fan favorite ever since he returned last year.

But with WrestleMania season right around the corner, this could be the beginning of a huge storyline for the SmackDown authority figures.
