Back in May, Randy Orton and Gunther clashed in the finals of the King of the Ring tournament. In the end it was Gunther who picked up the win to earn not only the title of King of the Ring, but a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam. However, the finish wasn’t without controversy as only one of Randy Orton’s shoulders was down when the referee counted the pin.

Gunther went on to defeat Damian Priest at SummerSlam to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion, and Randy Orton made it clear a few weeks ago that he wanted a shot at the title.

On Saturday, Orton and Gunther clashed once again as Gunther defended his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against The Viper at Bash In Berlin. Samantha Irvin did the ring announcements for Randy Orton while Ludwig Kaiser introduced Gunther.

Randy Orton dominated Gunther for most of the match early on, but when Orton went for the RKO the first time Gunther countered with a German suplex. Gunther followed up with a dropkick then jumped off the top rope and hit a splash for a two count.

Gunther went for a powerbomb, but his arm gave out. He went for the move two more times as he struggled to get Orton up. Orton picked Gunther up on his shoulders, but Gunther shifted the weight, got his feet back down on the mat and hit the powerbomb for a two count.

The Ring General struggled as he went for another powerbomb and Randy countered with the RKO. Gunther kicked out at two. Orton cleared off the announce table. He set up the steel ring steps next to the table as Gunther got out of the ring. Orton picked Gunther up and dropped him onto the steps. The fans went back and forth with dueling chants for Gunther and Orton.

Randy Orton slammed Gunther’s head into the steps and then walked up to the top of them. He picked Gunther up and dropped him back first through the announce table from the top of the steps. Orton then did his signature pose on the steps as the fans cheered.

The Viper dragged Gunther back into the ring. Orton went for the RKO only for Gunther to block it. Gunther locked in the sleeper. Orton broke the hold, but Gunther locked it in again. Randy stood up and lifted Gunther’s feet off the mat. He dropped himself backward sending Gunther into the ring mat, but Gunther locked in the sleeper again. Gunther drove his elbow into Orton several times then locked in the sleeper. Orton passed out as the referee called for the bell.

After the match Gunther extended his hand and Randy Orton aceepted the handshake. Gunther celebrated with the belt as Bash In Berlin went off the air.
